Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), like many hospitals, relies on the federal 340B Drug Pricing Program to manage the cost of serving vulnerable and low-income patients. MUSC saw immediate savings—$1.4 Million already in the first year—and appreciated the confidence of knowing they were fully in compliance with federal guidelines. As important as the financial benefits are, the ease of use and efficiency of McKesson pharmacy technology is equally important and adds to the total savings. Heather Kokko, Directory of Pharmacy Services, said, “Managing a 340B program manually would be a complex undertaking that might require specialized skills, 340B Manager and McKesson Connect Link are so simple to use that we can sustain our increased efficiency even as personnel change.” The user-friendly interface of McKesson Connect Link reduced—by 80%—the manual labor time of reviewing reports and updating 340B pricing and medication package sizes.
